Orange Flan Cake



Orange Flan Cake
Ingredients
Flan Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup water

1 ½ cups milk
1 teaspoon Vanilla
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
8 egg yolks

1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
Cake Ingredients
2 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt

½ cup sour cream
½ cup milk
½ cup butter, softened or vegetable oil
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon Vanilla
3 eggs
Orange Syrup Ingredients (optional as desired)
½ cup orange juice
1 ½  cups sugar

Directions
* Preheat an oven to 350 F(175 C)
* In small heavy saucepan, combine 2 cups sugar with 1 cup water
* Bring to boil.  Reduce heat to medium , cook until sugar  turns  golden brown in color and  caramelizes  About  25 – 30 minutes.
Brush pan sides once a while with water so sugar not stick on sides (Note: Do not stir the sugar syrup during cooking or overcook)
* Quickly pour sugar into ungreased  two 9 x 1½ inch round Cake Pan and swirl pans  to cover bottoms
* In a bowl mix together flan ingredients at low speed until well blended. set aside
* In another bowl combine together dry cake ingredients then add the rest
of ingredients and mix well at medium speed
 * Pour flan mixture evenly over caramelized sugar in each pan, Spoon cake batter evenly over flan mixture in each pan ,without  mixing them together

* Fill shallow pan half full water, place cake pans in it, place them in the oven
* Bake for 35 – 45 minutes or until the cake springs back when touched lightly  in center
* Cool for 30 minutes, invert on a plate
* Make 16 servings

Orange Syrup Directions
* In small heavy saucepan, combine sugar and juice together over medium heat, bring to boil
* Reduce heat to low and cook for 5 minutes

* Turn of the heat and cool syrup
